Adam Kingdon
Adam Kingdon is the CEO and Co-founder of i2O Water. After studying Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College, he joined MAN, one of Germany’s largest engineering groups. He moved quickly from developing new diesel engines into a sales role, largely based in the Middle East.
An MBA from the prestigious INSEAD business school gave Adam the confidence to run his own business. Soon afterwards he led a Management Buyout of Robinson Electronics, a loss-making supplier of test equipment for electricity supply utilities. After successfully turning Robinson around, Adam went on to turn around more than ten loss-making companies in the UK, France, Germany, Holland and Belgium. One turnaround was in the water industry, which was where Adam spotted the opportunity for i2O.
It was very clear that the water industry faced enormous challenges, such as providing clean water to a growing population while at the same time dealing with climate change. It was also clear that innovative solutions and new technology would be needed to address these problems. In 2005 he set up i2O Water with Andrew Burrows (now Technical Director of i2O) to develop new technology for reducing leakage on water distribution networks. They recruited Stuart Trow, one of the leading authorities on leakage, to advise them (Stuart has since become a shareholder and director).
